Invitation Letter Request

(The following suggestions are meant as ADVICE only. We cannot guarantee how Consuls abroad will approach each individual situation.)

If you would like to invite someone other than your dependents (ONLY spouse and children are eligible for F-2 or J-2 visas) to visit you in the United States, they will need to enter the U.S. on a B-2 Visitor Visa.

To support their application for a B-2 visa, we suggest that you send the following:

1. A letter from you to your invitee, in English, inviting him/her for a visit. In this letter, you should:

a. Specify the length of the visit.
b. State that you are prepared to take care of your invitee; this means that you will provide a place to stay, that you will meet necessary expenses, etc.

2. Evidence of your student status

a. You can get a letter from the Registrar’s Office as evidence of student status.
b. Include with your letter a photocopy (NOT the original) of your I-20/DS-2019, passport, visa and I-94 card.

3. Evidence of your ability to financially support your visitors (your assistantship letter, bank statement, etc.). This evidence is needed only if your visitor does not have the funds to support himself or herself.

4. All visitors should have health insurance. They may bring travelers’ health insurance purchased in their home country, or may purchase it here. The Slutzker Center has a policy designed for short-term international visitors. However, it must be purchased within 7 days of arrival in the United States.

If you desire, the Slutzker Center for International Services will also write a letter supporting your request. Please use the “Invitation Letter Request” form below to request such a letter.

Instructions

Please fill out the following information if you wish the Slutzker Center to endorse your invitation; endorsement letter will be ready for pick-up at the Slutzker Center in 3-5 business days. All information contained in the letter will reflect our SEVIS records. If you will complete your program early, please be sure to notify the Slutzker Center so that we can shorten your program.

Please refer to your I-20 or DS-2019 to answer questions regarding your program of study.

Statement of Agreement with Health Insurance coverage of visitor:
