FAIR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Edward
Smith K-8 is looking for parents and community members to help with its
Science Fair, which will take place on Thursday, March 19th. We need
volunteers to help in two capacities: 1) PROJECT MENTORS In an
effort to increase the support students receive in developing their
Science Fair projects, we are looking for additional adults to work
directly with our 6th graders. Mentors will help individual students
develop their exhibits, making sure that they understand and demonstrate
the scientific principles involved in their project. The
scheduled times for mentors to work in assigned classrooms are on
Wednesdays, Feb. 4th, 11th, and 25th, from 1:25 – 2:25 PM. While we
prefer that mentors work all three days to provide consistency, you could
work fewer. We also would like to offer help sessions where any
student, including students outside of 6th grade, can stop by for advice
on their project (4th and 5th graders can elect to participate in the
Science Fair, 7th and 8th graders complete their projects in daily Science
class). We are considering offering both afternoon and evening
sessions and will schedule them around the availability of volunteers.
2) SCIENCE FAIR JUDGES The
judges will evaluate student projects on an individual basis on Thursday,
March 19th. Judges will listen to a student’s presentation, ask
questions, and discuss issues presented in the project with the
student. Judges also will complete an evaluation sheet, which
teachers will use to give feedback to the student. We need judges
for two shifts: 9:15 AM – 11:30 AM, 11:15 AM – 1:30 AM. You
can choose to work one or both shifts. Breakfast and lunch are
provided to judges. If you
are able to help, complete the form below and return it to school or
contact Stephanie Bartling at sbartlin@twcny.rr.com or 478-8856. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SCIENCE FAIR
