SUDOKU

The name "Sudoku" is the Japanese abbreviation of a longer phrase, "suji wa dokushin ni kagiru" meaning "the digits must occur only once"[1].Sudoku does not require calculation or arithmetic skills. It is a puzzle in which one uses logic to place numbers in squares so that every row, every column, and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1 through 9.

Objective: Fill in the blank squares with the correct number by honoring the following criteria:

  • Every row of 9 numbers must include all digits 1 through 9 in any order
  • Every column of 9 numbers must include all digits 1 through 9 in any order
  • Every 3x3 sub-square of the 9x9 square must include all digits 1 through 9
