Sometimes students are not able to complete their studies prior to the expiration date on the I-20 or DS-2019. In this event, you may be eligible for an extension. This extension MUST be accomplished PRIOR to the expiration date on the I-20 or DS-2019.

If you are an SU or ESF student with a J-1 visa, please print the form below and bring it to one of our student advisor.

3. Academic Training (J-1): Yes, I will complete my studies by (date). I am planning to seek employment inthe United States. Please make an appointment to discuss this with the J-1 Academic Training Advisor at theSlutzker Center.

4. New Degree/Level at Syracuse University: Yes, I will complete my studies by (date), but I am planningto continue my studies at Syracuse University. (if you chose this option, please come into the Slutzker Center to see one of the J-1 Advisors, they will review your request).

5. New Degree/Level at another University. Yes, I will complete my studies by (date), but I am planning to continue my studies at another University. You will need to obtain a release date from the Slutzker Center for yourSEVIS record..

6. Home Country: Yes, I will complete my studies by (date) but, plan to return to my home country. (if youchose this option, remember that you have 30 days after graduation to depart from the U.S. You may travel, pack, and enjoy yourself. But, you may not be employed).
